A fatal shooting occurred in Panama City, Florida, on Saturday, February 22, resulting from a road rage altercation in which a mother was shot in front of her daughter. The Panama City Police Department (PCPD) reported on the incident in a news release.

Georgeann Park Garner, who was celebrating her 48th birthday alongside her 19-year-old daughter, Marileigh Lewis, found themselves engaged in a dispute with Jubal Simmons, 23, and Ivybella Encino, 21. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from a traffic disagreement, leading to verbal harassment directed at Garner and Lewis by Simmons and Encino.

According to the police, the situation escalated into a physical confrontation between Lewis and Encino. Following the brief altercation, both parties returned to their vehicles to separate. However, the conflict took a violent turn when Simmons allegedly discharged a firearm multiple times, striking both Garner and Lewis in the chest while also hitting another vehicle that was uninvolved in the incident.

Law Enforcement Response

After receiving reports of the shooting around 4:15 p.m., PCPD officers quickly responded to the scene. One officer attempted to pursue Encino’s vehicle as it sped away but was rammed by her car, resulting in both vehicles being disabled. Fortunately, Encino was apprehended without further incident.

Encino now faces several charges, including accessory to murder, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, and fleeing law enforcement, among others. Meanwhile, Simmons fled on foot but was captured shortly after, facing multiple charges, including murder and attempted murder.

Upon their arrival at the hospital, Garner succumbed to her injuries shortly after, while Lewis remains in critical condition in the ICU. Reports indicate that she is on a ventilator and is undergoing a challenging recovery process.
