Bollywood’s Re-Release Trend: Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana Makes a Comeback
The re-release trend in Bollywood is picking up steam as the film Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017), featuring Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda, is scheduled to return to theaters on March 7, coinciding with the week celebrating International Women’s Day.
As audiences gravitate towards nostalgic cinematic experiences, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is set to take another bow in cinemas, following the success of earlier re-releases like Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013). The film garnered a dedicated fan following, prompting its revival in light of its cult status.
Deepak Mukut, who previously produced Sanam Teri Kasam, expressed his excitement over this trend, noting the renewed interest for older films. The re-release of Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana comes after its original box office performance, where it earned around ₹11.14 crore, but its engaging plot and standout performances, especially the hit song Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar, have led to its increasing popularity over the years.
Industry insiders believe the timing is advantageous. A trade expert highlighted that with no competitive Hindi film releasing on March 7—since The Diplomat has been delayed to March 14—this presents an excellent chance for Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana to attract a considerable audience. If responses are positive, there is a possibility for increased screen allocations.
The narrative follows Aarti, played by Kriti Kharbanda, as she prepares for an arranged marriage to Sattu, portrayed by Rajkummar Rao. On her wedding day, Aarti discovers she has passed her PCS exams. Fearing her conservative in-laws will stifle her career ambitions post-marriage, she chooses to leave, confiding only in her sister and uncle. Sattu is left devastated. Five years later, Aarti, now a successful sub-registrar, faces an unexpected twist when she is accused of corruption, uncovering that her old flame, Sattu, is leading the investigation.
Directed by Ratnaa Sinha and produced by Vinod Bachchan’s Soundrya Productions, the re-release was confirmed through social media by filmmaker Anubhav Sinha. As re-releases continue to resonate with moviegoers, the return of Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana could potentially mirror the achievements of Sanam Teri Kasam, providing the film with the recognition it has long deserved.
