Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C. has announced the release of their new single, “It’s Amazing To Be Young.” This marks their first new music following the launch of their fourth studio album, Romance, last August.

The song, produced by the talented James Ford, is set to be released on a limited edition 7” vinyl on April 18. Alongside this new track, fans can also look forward to another song titled “Before You I Just Forget.” Preorders are already available through the official website of the Dublin-based band.

According to the band, “It’s Amazing To Be Young” was inspired by a moment when guitarist Carlos O’Connell’s child was present during the songwriting process. As bassist Conor Deegan III noted, the initial sound resembled a lullaby or a music box, echoing the sentiment captured in the lyrics: “it’s amazing to be young.”

Deegan elaborated on the song’s message, highlighting the transformative hope that children symbolize. He expressed that this inspiration drives young people like themselves to envision a brighter future. “It’s a feeling that contests the skepticism that often prevails in our modern society. We wanted to affirm our belief in the beauty of youth,” he stated.

He further conveyed the band’s aim to foster this sense of freedom, hoping to preserve it not only for themselves but for others as well.

The release of this single is strategically timed ahead of a busy summer for Fontaines D.C. They are scheduled to perform outdoor concerts across the U.K. in cities such as Manchester, Newcastle, Cardiff, and London. Their London show at Finsbury Park, which accommodates 45,000 attendees, is particularly anticipated. This summer tour will follow their extensive spring tours in Asia, Australia, South America, and North America.

The single is also accompanied by a music video directed by BAFTA award-winning filmmaker Luna Carmoon. Carmoon had previously collaborated with the band on the videos for “Here’s The Thing” and “In The Modern World.” In a statement, she expressed her enthusiasm for this project, noting that the creation process was organic and fulfilling. “It’s been a privilege to work with a wonderful team and to create the visual narrative that this music inspired,” she remarked.

Upon the release of Romance, Fontaines D.C. celebrated another significant milestone as they secured a spot in the top 10 of the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart for the fourth consecutive time, and achieved their highest ranking yet in the U.S. Billboard 200, debuting at No. 97.
