Tragedy has struck the sports community with the untimely passing of former Louisville linebacker P.J. Blue, who played alongside Lamar Jackson during his tenure at the university. He was only 27 years old at the time of his death, as confirmed by the university in a statement released on Tuesday.
Louisville officials expressed their sorrow, stating, “We are saddened by the passing of Cardinal Forever P.J. Blue. Our thoughts are with his loved ones.”
The specific circumstances surrounding Blue’s death have not been disclosed, leaving many in the community searching for answers.
Blue first joined the Cardinals in 2016, the same year Jackson achieved the prestigious Heisman Trophy. However, his early career faced challenges, as he redshirted that year and then missed the entire 2017 season due to an ACL tear.
He made his collegiate debut in 2018, participating in 11 games and finishing the season with four starts and a total of 39 tackles. Unfortunately, Blue’s trajectory was again halted when he sustained another knee injury, forcing him to miss the 2019 season.
Before arriving at Louisville, Blue garnered attention as a standout high school athlete at Park Crossing High School in Alabama, earning a three-star rating by the time he concluded his prep career.
The loss of Blue has prompted an outpouring of grief from former teammates and friends. Notably, Super Bowl champion Mekhi Becton, who shared the field with Blue at Louisville, paid tribute to him on Instagram, saying, “Rest in Paradise brudda!”
His passing leaves a significant void in the hearts of those who knew him and a lasting impact on the community that supported him throughout his journey.
