Framework Expands Laptop Lineup with Budget-Friendly Convertible Model

Framework has been a pioneer in the upgrade-and-repair-friendly laptop sector since the introduction of its Framework Laptop 13 nearly four years ago. In early 2024, the company unveiled the Framework Laptop 16, which offers enhanced features and performance. Now, at a recent product event, Framework has provided a sneak peek of its latest offering, the Framework Laptop 12, designed as a convertible option with a budget-conscious approach.

The Framework Laptop 12 features a 12.2-inch convertible touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920×1200. This innovative design allows the screen to rotate back and function similarly to Lenovo’s popular Yoga line. According to CEO Nirav Patel, the design was primarily aimed at students, which is reflected in its vibrant color options and dual-tone plastic body. Unlike the aluminum exterior seen in previous models like the 13 and 16, this laptop integrates an internal metal frame for added durability.

An interesting aspect of the Framework Laptop 12 is its distinction from the company’s other models. It is built with unique motherboards and accessories, and it follows a different refresh schedule compared to the Framework Laptop 13. While the Laptop 13 provides options for first-generation Intel Core Ultra processors and newer AMD Ryzen AI 300 processors, the Laptop 12 will initially come equipped with 13th-generation Intel Core i3 and i5 processors, which were released in late 2022. Despite the relatively older chipsets, Framework asserts that the Laptop 12 will deliver an impressive performance tailored for its market segment.

In addition to its performance capabilities, the Framework Laptop 12 will be offered with an optional stylus, enhancing its appeal for note-taking and creative uses. This new model aligns with Framework’s ongoing commitment to accessibility and sustainability, catering to users looking for a functional device at a competitive price point.

As Framework continues to innovate within the laptop industry, the release of the Laptop 12 reinforces the company’s strategy of providing versatile and user-friendly computing solutions, aimed particularly at students and budget-conscious consumers.
