Frank Lampard Takes Helm at Coventry City
Frank Lampard has expressed that his deep-rooted passion for football and unwavering commitment to hard work are what brought him back into management as the new head coach of Coventry City.
The 46-year-old former Chelsea and England midfielder officially took charge of the Sky Blues on Thursday morning.
During his unveiling at the CBS Arena later that day, Lampard remarked, “I had a long career. Certain people maybe think I don’t need to work, I guess financially. But I wanted to get back in because it’s what I love doing.”
“I love coaching players. I love working with players on the training ground,” he added, emphasizing his dedication to the development of talent.
Lampard faces a challenging role ahead as he takes over a team currently sitting in 17th place in the Championship, teetering just above the relegation zone by a narrow margin of two points. Additionally, he must follow in the footsteps of Mark Robins, his predecessor, who left an indelible mark on the club during his successful seven-and-a-half years in charge.
In his new position, Lampard also has the task of building upon his mixed management history. Previously, he had notable success leading Derby County to the Championship play-offs, cultivating an exciting young squad at Chelsea, and guiding Everton to safety. However, his journey has not been without its setbacks, having experienced dismissal on two occasions when club management grew impatient.
“It’s a very consuming business,” Lamaprd stated, reflecting on the demands of football management. “But I’ve had a nice spell out of the game – valuable family time and time to see things from the outside. It’s easy to sit at home and play golf, but I like to work.”
Demonstrating his competitive spirit, he concluded, “I’m driven. I like to prove people wrong. I did in my playing career.”
