Freight Train Derails in Littleton, Massachusetts
A freight train transporting printer paper experienced a partial derailment early Tuesday morning in Littleton, Massachusetts, according to local authorities.
Three boxcars were reported to have come off the tracks at the Gilson Road crossing shortly after 6 a.m., as confirmed by the Littleton Police Department and CSX Transportation.
The police stated, “We are told the train is carrying printer paper and no hazardous materials,” emphasizing that there was no immediate danger to the public.
Initially, police advised that Gilson Road would remain closed for most of the day due to the incident; however, they later updated the public around 10:30 a.m. to report that the road had been reopened.
A photo released by the police department depicted a “road closed” sign along with caution barrels obstructing access to the area affected by the derailment.
CSX Transportation confirmed that there were no injuries related to the derailment and that the affected railcars have been successfully rerailed, restoring rail operations to normal.
The exact cause of the derailment remains under investigation by authorities.
