The Fresno area is poised to experience a shift in weather patterns, transitioning from dry, hot conditions to rainy weather accompanied by significantly cooler temperatures, as indicated by the National Weather Service.
According to their updates on X, formerly known as Twitter, a change in atmospheric patterns is expected to occur early next week, with winds redirecting from the northwest. This will bring in cooler air from the northern Pacific, resulting in afternoon temperatures approximately 5 degrees below the seasonal average.
The anticipated change will begin on Sunday, paving the way for a more temperate weather system.
Here’s a detailed forecast for the Fresno area.
Forecast Overview for Fresno
On Saturday, the city can expect mostly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching around 79 degrees during the day and dropping to about 57 degrees overnight. Winds will be gentle, swirling at around 5 mph, according to the National Weather Service’s latest forecast.
Sunday is projected to be partly sunny, with temperatures peaking near 77 and dipping to 56 at night. Winds are likely to escalate to 5 to 10 mph, with potential gusts reaching up to 15 mph.
Expected Rainfall in Fresno
Dan Harty, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford, mentioned that rain clouds are predicted to start moving in late Sunday night. While he indicated a “small chance” for rain on Sunday, he cautioned that residents shouldn’t anticipate significant amounts—perhaps only a few hundredths of an inch.
On Monday, conditions are expected to remain mostly sunny with a 30% chance of rain before 11 a.m. Temperatures will be around 67 degrees, with a low near 48.
“Expect gusty winds on Monday morning, possibly up to 25 mph,” Harty elaborated.
Tuesday’s forecast reveals a high of about 65 and a low around 45, with a 20% chance of light showers possible. He noted that residents closer to the Sierra Nevada may see more substantial precipitation, suggesting up to a quarter-inch of rain and a few inches of snow in the mountains.
On Wednesday, temperatures could rise to around 68 degrees, with night-time lows near 46, followed by a return to sunny weather on Thursday with similar temperature patterns.
“Overall, we’re looking at a considerable drop in temperatures,” Harty remarked, emphasizing that upper 60s to near 70 will be the typical highs for the week ahead. “A return to warmer weather isn’t on the horizon.”
Preparation Tips for Rain in Fresno
To better prepare for incoming rain, the National Weather Service urges residents to:
1. Clear leaves from storm drains to ensure proper drainage.
2. Clean gutters to prevent blockages.
3. Inspect windshield wipers for functionality.
4. Have umbrellas and rain gear accessible.
5. Drive cautiously on slick roads.
6. Exercise caution on roads in higher elevations that may be snowy.
