On February 8, 2023, travelers navigating Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) were met with signs directing them to the Uber rideshare pickup location, highlighting the company’s integration into everyday travel.
In a significant legal move, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced on Monday that it has filed a lawsuit against Uber. The lawsuit targets the ride-hailing and food delivery service for allegedly engaging in deceptive billing practices and complications surrounding the cancellation of its subscription service.
The FTC asserts that Uber breached the FTC Act along with the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act. The agency contends that the company provided misleading details regarding its Uber One subscription, made it difficult for users to cancel their memberships, and charged fees without users’ explicit consent.
FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson expressed the growing frustration among consumers, stating, “Americans are tired of getting signed up for unwanted subscriptions that seem impossible to cancel. The Trump-Vance FTC is fighting back on behalf of the American people.”
