In Chill Chat, Bustle engages with notable figures in discussions about wellness, exploring topics from everyday habits to effective strategies for improving sleep.

Gabby Bernstein, a New York Times bestselling author and recognized spiritual guide, recently shared insights into her morning practices and perspectives on manifesting in an interview. With ten published works to her name, her latest book, Self Help: This Is Your Chance To Change Your Life, launched on December 31. Bernstein reflects on her writing journey and the personal evolution represented in each of her books.

“Each book captures a different aspect of who I am at that moment,” Bernstein states. She emphasizes that while the themes vary, every new title builds on her past lessons and experiences, culminating in what she describes as a comprehensive collection in Self Help.

This latest piece is structured around a four-step self-help methodology aimed at assisting individuals in releasing limiting beliefs to reach their ideal life—a journey Bernstein knows intimately. She cites her transformative experience during her first appearance on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday in 2019 as a pivotal instance of manifestation.

“I dedicated six months to daily meditation, envisioning what it would be like to be on Oprah,” she recounts. “Then one day, just before the release of my fourth book, I felt a profound intuitive nudge.”

With that inspiration, Bernstein penned a note declaring, “I’m going to be on Oprah,” only to receive a call from the show’s producers the following day. She explains, “This wasn’t mere wishful thinking. I was actively pursuing my goals, building my audience, and eliminating any self-doubt. It’s this space of letting go of disbelief that allows for true manifestations.”

In the discussion, Bernstein elaborates on her wellness rituals, including her midday meditation routines.

Walk me through your morning routine.

My day begins at 6:59 a.m. when my 6-year-old son, Oliver, wakes me. My husband takes him downstairs, giving me a few moments to engage in a five-minute self-check using the four steps from Self Help to assess my feelings. Once Oliver is off to school, I spend what I call my “magic hour” focused on creative tasks.

How do you fuel up for the day?

I enjoy a cup of organic Mexican coffee made in a French press, alongside a smoothie blended with kefir, protein powder, almond milk, adaptogens, and gut-health supplements.

How do you reset when you’re stressed?

Every day at noon, I take part in a non-sleep deep rest meditation where I recline on my sofa and use a mantra to recalibrate my nervous system over the course of 40 minutes. This experience allows me to experience deep relaxation without actually falling asleep. If I skip this ritual, I find myself feeling drowsy during meetings.

Can you share some tips for manifesting?

While affirmations and various techniques can be beneficial, if you don’t address your fundamental beliefs about yourself, you may find yourself stuck in familiar patterns. I refer to this approach as the “new manifesting,” which prioritizes a deep understanding of personal beliefs to cultivate calm and creativity. When you align with that energy, remarkable opportunities arise.

Do you have any self-care products you swear by?

I use the LYMA Laser for an hour every evening while watching shows. Additionally, I’m a fan of the Normatec boots, and I also benefit from using a red light helmet that promotes hair thickness. I’m fully immersed in wellness practices.

Are you a fan of working out?

At the age of 45, I prioritize workouts suited for perimenopause, focusing on high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and heavier weights. I’ve transitioned from using light 3-pound weights to incorporating 15-pound weights, performing three sets of 15 repetitions on weight machines. While I haven’t reached the point of bench pressing yet, I’m open to the possibility in the future.

How do you relax at the end of a long day?

After dinner, I enjoy unwinding on the sofa with my husband and son. We often light a fire, watch The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and catch up with other late-night programming. I aim to be in bed by 9 p.m. My husband occasionally jokes about my early bedtime, but I prioritize sleep, as it’s what my body craves.
