Harvey Specter Returns in New Series Expansion
Beloved characters from television history often evoke a sense of nostalgia among audiences. Fans are often delighted when these characters reappear, whether in a high-profile commercial, a successful reboot, or, as seen with Suits L.A., an expansion of a previously established universe.
In this light, Gabriel Macht’s return to the iconic role of Harvey Specter is particularly noteworthy. Macht recently discussed his experience returning to the character after the series concluded, shedding light on how he re-engaged with Harvey’s world.
Viewers may recall the intricate backstory linking Harvey and Ted Black, played by Stephen Amell, involving their shared history in the U.S. Attorney’s office and a significant case that impacted their lives. Beginning April 13, audiences can expect dramatic twists in a two-week event centered on Harvey’s visit to Ted in Los Angeles, where unresolved tensions continue to boil.
Macht revealed that his involvement was initiated by a call from Suits‘ creator, Aaron Korsh, who expressed his enthusiasm for the new project. “He was telling me how great Suits L.A. was going, and how much he was enjoying it,” Macht recounted. Korsh suggested that a friendship existed between Harvey and Ted, justifying the need for Harvey’s return amidst Ted’s personal struggles.
Initially, Macht was hesitant. “We finished strong,” he thought, reflecting on the series finale. However, Korsh’s insistence that a character with Harvey’s name would make a significant difference prompted Macht to reconsider the opportunity. After mulling it over and recognizing the ongoing popularity of Suits—thanks in part to its resurgence on Netflix—Macht felt compelled to reprieve his role for the loyal fanbase. He expressed a desire to not only support the continuation of the show but also to help transition the narrative to Amell and the new cast.
True to his character’s tenacity, Macht ultimately embraced the chance to re-enter the world of litigation and witty repartees that fans have come to love.
