Exploring the Camera Capabilities of the Oppo Find X8 Ultra
During a recent event in China, we had the opportunity to test the camera features of the newly launched Oppo Find X8 Ultra. To fully explore its imaging capabilities, we took the device out for a quick hands-on experience in the picturesque city of Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province. Our focus was on capturing a variety of shots at multiple zoom levels: 0.6x, 1x, 3x, and 6x, even pushing the boundaries of the zoom functionality to assess its performance in low-light and portrait scenarios.
This testing session aims to provide insights into the Oppo Find X8 Ultra’s imaging performance without delving deeply into a comprehensive review of its camera specifications. Hence, we will keep the technical jargon to a minimum.
The resulting images illustrate the Find X8 Ultra’s advanced imaging technology, spanning from 15mm to 135mm and beyond. Noteworthy is the device’s consistent image processing across different camera settings—sharpness, contrast, and tonality are harmonized well across different focal lengths.
Some minor variations in color temperature between the wide-angle and zoom lenses were observed. Nonetheless, the color consistency within each category remains intact, with wide-angle cameras maintaining coherent color profiles among themselves as do the zoom lenses.

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra boasts an impressive zoom range, making it one of the more compelling options in the ultra-cameraphone category. With its 70mm midrange zoom, supported by a substantial 1/1.56-inch sensor—second only to the vivo X100 Ultra and X200 Pro’s 1/1.4-inch sensor at an 85mm focal length—it features a new f/2.1 lens that enhances its capabilities.
For photographers looking to capture fine details from greater distances, the 135mm telephoto option is noteworthy. This camera now includes a larger sensor and a brighter f/3.1 lens, representing a significant improvement over the previous f/4.3, especially advantageous in low-light conditions.

The utility of the 6x zoom camera becomes apparent when extending beyond 135mm, allowing photographers to capture intricate details from afar that would be beyond the reach of the 70mm lens.
Both the 70mm and 135mm focal lengths are well-suited for portrait photography. We tested these ranges with several samples, and the Hasselblad-tuned portrait mode significantly enhances the separation between the subject and the background.

Lastly, we explored the low-light capabilities of the 1-inch main camera. This sensor stands out as one of the best for low-light performance, exhibiting exceptional light-gathering capabilities that ensure photographs are taken swiftly in dim environments, far surpassing what devices like the Pixel, iPhone, or Galaxy flagships can achieve. The images captured feature a photo quality reminiscent of what is typically expected from larger cameras, all thanks to the generous sensor size.
