Google has announced an enticing offer for college students in the United States, allowing them to access its advanced AI service, Gemini Advanced, free for a year. This initiative aims to compete with OpenAI’s recent promotion offering two months of free ChatGPT Plus for students. Through this new program, students can enjoy 15 months of Gemini Advanced at no cost, alongside enhanced storage benefits.

Exclusive Access for College Students in the U.S.

The details of this offer are outlined on a dedicated microsite hosted on the Google Gemini webpage. College students residing in the U.S. can take advantage of this lucrative offer until June 30, enabling many to explore advanced AI capabilities without financial commitment.

Students currently subscribed to Google One AI Premium will need to cancel their existing subscription and wait until the end of their billing cycle to access this promotional offer. The regular subscription fee for Google One AI Premium stands at approximately $20 per month.

To qualify for the free service, students must possess a valid college email address that ends with ‘.edu’, which Google uses to verify eligibility for the deal. This restriction ensures that the promotion reaches only those actively enrolled in higher education institutions.

The complimentary access to Gemini Advanced encompasses features such as Gemini 2.5 Pro, Notebook LM Plus for research purposes, Whisk for generating images and animations, and Veo 2 for video creation. Additionally, users will have integrated access to Gemini features across various Google Workspace applications, adding further value and functionality.

After successfully signing up using their college email, students will see these benefits, including 2TB of Google Cloud storage, activated on their personal Google account. Remarkably, these features will be accessible until “spring 2026,” allowing students ample time to utilize the tools in their studies and projects.

This promotion comes in the wake of OpenAI’s recent announcement, which provides U.S. and Canadian students with two months of complimentary ChatGPT Plus access. While OpenAI’s offer is shorter in duration, Google’s Gemini Advanced package presents a more extensive span of access, although it is limited strictly to students in the U.S.
