What you need to know
Google has unveiled the new Veo 2 for users of its Gemini Advanced and Whisk experimental platforms as of April 15. This innovative feature is designed to transform user-provided text descriptions into short video clips, each lasting around eight seconds, which can then be shared on platforms like YouTube Shorts or TikTok. Additionally, Whisk has introduced “Whisk Animate,” a tool that enables users to convert generated images into high-quality video sequences using Veo 2. These updates are being rolled out globally, but Whisk users will be required to subscribe to the Google One AI Premium plan to access these features.
Google is expanding the reach of its so-called “photorealistic” video creation tool, Veo 2, for consumers who are part of the Gemini program and Whisk testers today (April 15).
With Veo 2’s advanced video generation capabilities, users can convert text prompts into dynamic visual content. Google emphasizes that the integration with Gemini allows users to script a wide array of video content, from narrative storytelling to specific scene representations, highlighting the importance of detailed descriptions for optimal outcomes.
Once activated within Gemini Advanced, users have the option to select Veo 2 from a drop-down menu. Upon entering their text prompt, Veo 2 generates an eight-second MP4 video clip presented in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

These video clips can be easily shared, with Google’s mobile platform offering a convenient “Share” button for quick uploads to YouTube Shorts and TikTok.
As the feature becomes available for Gemini Advanced users, Google is emphasizing its commitment to safety in video generation. The company has implemented measures to prevent the creation of content that contravenes its guidelines. All videos produced through Veo 2 will feature SynthID, indicating that the content is AI-generated and raising awareness among viewers.
Moreover, Gemini Advanced users should note that there is a “monthly limit” on the number of videos that can be created using Veo 2, although Google has not specified the exact threshold. Users will be notified when they are nearing this limit.
Getting into Whisk
Veo 2 is also making its debut in Google’s ongoing AI experiment, Whisk. This development introduces “Whisk Animate,” enriching the experience for users who previously engaged with images by allowing them to animate these visuals into eight-second videos. Users can expect vibrant and striking colors in these generated video clips.
Whisk Animate is now available for users as of April 15. Interested individuals can try it out, but access is limited to global subscribers of Google One AI Premium.
In December, Google had previously launched updates for its Veo 2 and Imagen 3 models, which also included the introduction of Whisk as an experimental AI tool for Labs users. The initiative’s tagline, “Prompt less, Play More,” highlights Whisk’s novel approach that allows users to bypass traditional text prompts by providing images that meet three criteria: subject, scene, and style.
Whisk is designed to analyze the provided images to create a unique product tailored to users’ ideas. However, Google also noted that its AI technology might occasionally misinterpret vital details, such as hair or skin tone. To address these potential inaccuracies, Whisk features a “Review & Edit” function, giving users the ability to refine the AI-generated content.
