What you need to know

Google has launched its Gemini Live feature, enabling real-time video and screen sharing with its AI assistant for all Android users. Previously available only to owners of Pixel 9, Galaxy S25, and subscribers of Gemini Advanced, the feature is now accessible to all Android device users. To utilize this functionality, users can select “Share screen with Live” in the “Ask Gemini” interface.

The expansion of Gemini Live follows its initial rollout to Gemini Advanced members late last month. At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona earlier this year, Google introduced Project Astra features, with the rollout commencing by the end of March. The feature was first launched on Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 devices and subsequently made available to Gemini Advanced users, and now, regular users can take advantage of it without needing the paid subscription (source: 9to5Google).

It’s here: ask Gemini about anything you see. Share your screen or camera in Gemini Live to brainstorm, troubleshoot, and more.Rolling out to Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 devices today and available for all Advanced users on @Android in the Gemini app:… pic.twitter.com/fjTD4qhvjzApril 7, 2025

The live interaction feature allows users to speak directly with Gemini about whatever appears on their phone screen or camera. Activating it is straightforward: users initiate the interaction as they normally would, and upon opening the “Ask Gemini” window, they will see a new option labeled “Share screen with Live.” Selecting this option enables Gemini to view the user’s screen while they communicate with the assistant.

Users can utilize their device’s camera or browse through different applications while conversing with Gemini Live. The assistant responds to questions based on visual context provided in real-time. Importantly, similar to other live screen sharing functionalities, Gemini Live includes notifications that inform users when their screen sharing is active, offering the option to stop sharing at any time.

We’ve received fantastic feedback about Gemini Live with camera and screen sharing, so we made the decision to extend this feature to more users Starting today and in the weeks to come, we are rolling it out to *all* @Android users with the Gemini app. Enjoy!PS If you don’t have the app yet,… https://t.co/dTsxLZLxNIApril 16, 2025

This innovation also enables users to organize tasks, brainstorm for creative projects, and troubleshoot problems while receiving immediate feedback. Additionally, it can assist with personal shopping queries and provide guidance for skill development, as highlighted in Google’s announcement last month.

It is noteworthy that Google has opted to make this advanced functionality available to all Android users without necessitating a paid subscription. For users concerned about the privacy of their audio, video, or screen shares, Google provides an auto-delete option via the Gemini Apps Activity settings in their Google account.
