Google Rolls Out Gemini Live Features for Enhanced Interaction
Google has begun the rollout of its Gemini Live camera and screenshare functionalities, which allow its conversational AI chatbot to respond to queries about real-time visuals. This update is currently being made available on the Pixel 9 series phones and the Samsung Galaxy S25 devices. Additionally, this free enhancement is expected to reach a broader array of Android devices soon, although access will be limited to users with a paid Gemini Advanced subscription.
Once the feature is activated on compatible devices, users can easily initiate the live video capability with a simple button press, allowing them to pose questions based on what their camera captures. For instance, as highlighted in Google’s April Pixel Drop video, users can point their camera at an aquarium and inquire about different fish species. Moreover, the inclusion of the screenshare button allows users to display a shopping website and seek product comparisons or fashion recommendations from the AI assistant.
In a recent conversation, Google spokesperson Alex Joseph confirmed to The Verge that these new features have started to reach customers, supported by user reports on platforms like Reddit where some noted its functionality on devices including Xiaomi smartphones. The initial demonstration of video and screenshare capabilities was presented during Google’s I/O developer conference in May, under the banner of “Project Astra.”
Gemini Live is designed to support 45 languages and is accessible in specific countries to individuals aged 18 and over, excluding educational and enterprise accounts. This expansion underscores Google’s commitment to continuously enhance user interactivity and AI engagement across its platform.
