Autopsy Reports Release for Betsy Arakawa and Gene Hackman
Over two months after her passing, the autopsy and toxicology findings for Betsy Arakawa have become available.
According to the report acquired by the Associated Press, Betsy experienced significant fluid accumulation in her chest, along with congestion and heavy lungs, accompanied by mild hardening in her blood vessels.
The investigation confirmed that Betsy passed away due to hantavirus, with tests showing negative results for COVID-19, influenza, alcohol, and drugs.
Additionally, Betsy’s carbon monoxide levels were reported to be within the normal range.
Recently, the autopsy report for Gene Hackman was released by the Office of the Medical Investigator at the New Mexico University School of Medicine. It indicated signs of heart-related complications and extended fasting, concluding that he died from natural causes related to “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.”
The autopsy, which was also obtained by “Extra,” detailed Hackman’s medical history, including “congestive heart failure” and “severe chronic hypertensive changes” to his kidneys. The report also noted the presence of Alzheimer’s disease symptoms and evidence suggesting he had not eaten for an extended period.

In his later years, Hackman exhibited significant weight loss. Investigators noted the tragic timing of Betsy’s death just days before Hackman’s, which may have impacted his ability to care for himself due to his advanced cognitive decline.
Moreover, Hackman tested negative for hantavirus, the same illness that claimed Betsy’s life.
