Confirmation of Ready or Not Sequel with Returning Cast and Crew
Fans of the horror-comedy genre can rejoice, as a sequel to the acclaimed film Ready or Not has been officially confirmed. Samara Weaving, along with directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, will reprise their roles in the upcoming project. This announcement came during a special screening of the original film held by Searchlight Pictures in Hollywood on October 12, where the trio participated in a Q&A session following the screening (via Deadline).
Since its release in 2019, Ready or Not has captured audiences with its gripping plot that follows Weaving’s character, Grace. As a bride thrust into a deadly game of Hide and Seek against her new husband’s malevolent family, the film uniquely blends dark humor with horror. It achieved significant box office success, earning $57.6 million worldwide on a modest $6 million budget, while critics lauded it for its thrilling narrative and Weaving’s compelling performance.
While specifics about the sequel’s storyline remain under wraps, it has been confirmed that writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy will also return. The production team, including Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt, will reprise their roles as producers, with Villella and Tara Farney serving as executive producers for the project.
Growing Anticipation for Ready or Not 2
Since the first film’s success, many fans have expressed their desire for a sequel. Both Weaving and the Radio Silence team have hinted at ongoing discussions regarding the follow-up. During a promotional appearance in April for the film Abigail, Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin affirmed that a “fantastic” script is on hand, noting, “There is so much story left to tell.” Their enthusiasm was evident as they stated that they are eagerly working through the details to bring the sequel to fruition.
Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin did not shy away from sharing their excitement, declaring, “What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. We are so thrilled that it’s happening, and however it gets made, we will be involved in some capacity because it’s truly one of our greatest creative passions.”
The excitement for the sequel is mutual. Weaving recently contributed to the buzz while discussing her new project Azrael, expressing her commitment by saying, “I’m all in. I think we’re all in… We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together.”
The positive feedback continues as fans share their thoughts online. Leading up to this announcement, Searchlight Pictures confirmed the sequel on Instagram, showcasing Weaving alongside Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin. While the overwhelming majority have expressed excitement, some fans are voicing skepticism regarding the necessity of a sequel after the original’s strong ending. As one user commented, “Not sure how I feel about this. I don’t think it needs a sequel, but I’m excited to see more of Grace and whatever bloody mayhem this creative has in store this time around.”
For those looking to revisit the original film, Ready or Not, featuring performances from notable actors including Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell, is currently available for streaming on Hulu.
