‘Gilmore Girls’ Creator Reacts to Lauren Graham’s Proposal for a Revival

It has been nearly a decade since Netflix released Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and the fanbase remains hopeful for another revival. A recent 30-second Walmart commercial set in the iconic Luke’s Diner ignited widespread speculation about the current lives of the beloved characters from Stars Hollow. A new full-length revival would certainly satisfy the devoted fan community.

Lauren Graham has expressed her enthusiasm for reprising her role as Lorelai. During a recent episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, she mentioned the idea of a holiday reunion with the show’s ensemble. She noted that this concept resonates well with how British television often revisits fan-favorite series through special episodes, particularly around Christmas. “So it’s not episodes, but it’s seeing all your friends together again,” she elaborated.

In a fortunate turn of events, Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino recently shared her thoughts on Graham’s idea during a conversation with Bustle.

Stars Hollow for the Holidays?

“I just saw Lauren the other night, and someone mentioned a Christmas special,” Sherman-Palladino recounted. “I said, ‘You’re out there pitching a Christmas special?’ She responded, ‘Yes, I’ve been pitching it forever.’”

While the concept of a holiday special was not previously on her radar, Sherman-Palladino welcomes the idea. “Look, any chance I have to work with Lauren Graham — if there’s snow, if there’s rain, if there are mosquitoes, I’ll still do it,” she stated. “She’s my girl.”

Gilmore Girls’ Enduring Impact

During an event promoting their new Prime Video series Étoile, which features The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Luke Kirby as a ballet director, Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino reflected on the lasting impact of Gilmore Girls. Despite discussing their latest project, they were more than willing to answer questions about their earlier work.

“We love it,” Daniel Palladino remarked about the enduring affection for Gilmore Girls. “A lot of what TV writers create can feel disposable and forgettable, but we consider ourselves fortunate that Gilmore Girls remains significant to people even after all these years.”

He expressed surprise at the show’s continued popularity, especially given its portrayal of a time when beepers were a common means of communication. “Maybe that’s part of its charm,” he mused. “In a fast-paced world, particularly for younger viewers, watching Gilmore Girls provides a comforting escape that reflects a slower pace of life, even amidst the rapid dialogue.”
