During the recent 2025 CinemaCon Awards, “Extra’s” Roqui Theus had a chance to chat with Glen Powell, who shared insights about his time with “Top Gun: Maverick” co-star Tom Cruise.

Reflecting on that encounter, Glen remarked, “It was such a unique experience. Watching him react to the trailer for ‘The Running Man’ was a blast. Receiving that ultimate high five from Tom afterward was unforgettable. He truly is an incredible friend—supportive and inspiring, understanding the dedication required to create impactful films. He has done it countless times and appreciates the effort and sacrifices involved. Experiencing that moment with him was a joy. He also got to showcase ‘Mission: Impossible’ and pay tribute to Val Kilmer. There’s no one else quite like him.”

In addition to his friendship with Cruise, Powell spoke warmly about Val Kilmer, highlighting their brief collaboration on “Top Gun: Maverick.” He described Kilmer as a considerate and encouraging figure who helped the younger actors grasp the legacy they were stepping into.

Glen Powell’s significant contributions to cinema in 2024 were acknowledged with the Star of the Year award at the CinemaCon. He expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s been an extraordinary year—unpredictable in the best way! I had the opportunity to release films like ‘Anyone but You,’ ‘Hitman,’ and ‘Twisters,’ and I’m thrilled for what’s coming next.”

The actor also discussed his involvement in the upcoming remake of the iconic “Running Man,” originally starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Directed by Edgar Wright, Powell described the new film as a “cinematic treat” that offers much more than just surface-level entertainment. “It’s not a mere snack—this movie really delivers; it’s a buffet,” he noted.

Powell explained the fundamental differences between the original 1987 film and the remake, stating, “Our version diverges significantly from Arnold’s. While it is rooted in Stephen King’s narrative, which takes the protagonist on a global journey, the original was more contained, set primarily in a studio with hunters pursuing their prey. Our film is expansive and adventurous.”

He added, “We recently wrapped filming, and I’m still processing the extensive journey we’ve undergone since October. The experience was intense, and I’m gradually reflecting on all that occurred. The film is set to be released this November.”
