GOG’s Preservation Program Ensures Compatibility for Classic Games
GOG has made a significant commitment to gamers with its recently announced preservation program, stating that even if titles are removed from its catalog, they will continue to provide compatibility and technical support. This initiative is aimed at ensuring that players can still enjoy their purchased games seamlessly, despite changes in availability. The first titles to be included under this program are Warcraft I and Warcraft II, which are set to be delisted on December 13th.
The company’s assurance extends to addressing any alterations in Windows that might impact gameplay, aiming to mitigate potential disruptions for players.
Launched last month, the GOG Preservation Program is designed to extend ongoing technical support and apply compatibility updates to a selection of beloved classic games. Initially, GOG has identified 100 games that will fall under this initiative, including renowned titles like Diablo and the original Resident Evil series.
The removal of Warcraft I and Warcraft II from GOG is attributed to a request from their publisher, Blizzard Entertainment. Coincidentally, Blizzard launched remastered versions of these iconic games on the same day the preservation program was unveiled. For those interested in adding these classic titles to their libraries, GOG is currently offering a discount code, MakeWarcraftLiveForever, which provides savings on a bundle containing both games prior to their removal from the store.
