This evening, George Clooney and his cast celebrated the Broadway debut of Good Night, and Good Luck, a compelling new production co-created by Clooney and Grant Heslov, at the iconic Winter Garden Theatre (1634 Broadway). Under the direction of Tony Award winner David Cromer, this eagerly awaited play is currently holding preview performances, with its official Opening Night slated for Thursday, April 3.
Drawing inspiration from the film of the same name, originally embraced by 2929 Entertainment and Participant, which was distributed by Warner Bros., the cast features Clooney in the pivotal role of journalist Edward R. Murrow. Other notable actors include Mac Brandt as Colonel Anderson, Will Dagger as Don Hewitt, Christopher Denham as John Aaron, and Glenn Fleshler as Fred Friendly. Additional cast members include Ilana Glazer as Shirley Wershba, Clark Gregg as Don Hollenbeck, Paul Gross as William F. Paley, and many others who contribute to portraying real-life characters from this critical chapter in broadcasting history.
The production team for Good Night, and Good Luck comprises several award-winning professionals, including scenic designer Scott Pask, lighting designer Heather Gilbert, and sound designer Daniel Kluger, among others, who have all come together to bring this story to life.
The narrative of Good Night, and Good Luck transports audiences to the golden era of broadcast journalism, highlighting Edward R. Murrow’s pivotal on-air confrontation with Senator Joseph McCarthy. Set against the backdrop of McCarthyism’s influence, Murrow and his team bravely challenge the rise of anxiety-driven misinformation and government scrutiny, embodying a significant moment in American history where commitment to truth and journalistic principles prevailed over fear and disinformation.
