Google Chat Introduces Huddles Feature for Quick Collaboration
Google Chat is set to unveil a new feature called Huddles, which leverages the capabilities of Google Meet, allowing users to initiate rapid calls with colleagues. Initially announced for a customer preview over a year ago, the rollout of Huddles has commenced, with Google indicating that it will be accessible to all Workspace users by January 6th.
This feature draws a direct comparison to Slack’s Huddles, sharing not just a name but also a similar function aimed at enhancing workplace communication. The workplace collaboration landscape has seen minimal differentiation among various office suites, making this addition a notable effort by Google to offer a competitive edge.
Setting up a huddle is a straightforward process. Users can start a huddle by selecting the “Start a huddle” option from a dropdown menu located at the top of a chat window. This action will bring forth an audio call invitation, which can be upgraded to a video conference akin to Google Meet. Furthermore, the feature allows users to share their screens, providing a comprehensive meeting experience while multitasking within the Chat interface.
