Google Docs Introduces AI-Powered Inline Image Generation Feature

Google Docs is set to enhance its functionality with a new AI-driven image generation tool, enabling users to conveniently incorporate inline images into their documents. This latest addition utilizes Google’s Imagen 3 text-to-image generation model, providing a range of options for creating images in various aspect ratios and styles.

Earlier this year, Google Docs introduced a valuable AI feature that allowed for the creation of full-bleed cover images using Gemini, and now the platform is expanding this capability to include high-quality inline image generation. This advancement makes it easier for users to create photorealistic images depicting various subjects—ranging from people to landscapes—simply by inputting descriptive text.

To access this new feature, users can go to the Insert menu and select the “Help me create an image” option located in the Image sub-menu. This action will launch a new panel within the sidebar where users can provide their image description, choose from different aspect ratios, and decide on a specific style for the generated image. After customizing their preferences, users can hit the Create button, which will produce several image options to select from for their document.

Availability and Future Prospects

Like the earlier cover image generation feature, the inline image creation functionality is being rolled out exclusively to Google Workspace subscribers at this time. Google has indicated that this feature will be available for users of Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and those with a Google One AI Premium plan in the coming days. As of now, there are no details regarding a broader rollout to the general user base.

This development reflects Google’s ongoing commitment to integrating advanced AI technology into its productivity tools, thereby enhancing user experience and fostering creativity within Google Docs.
