Gemini AI Assistant Expands Google Photos Integration
The Gemini AI assistant has enhanced its functionality, now seamlessly integrating various Google applications, including Calendar, Drive, Docs, Maps, and YouTube. In its Android version, it further supports services like Spotify, OpenStax, WhatsApp, and Photos.
Recently, a new version of the app was previewed, and according to reports from 9to5Google, it is now available on devices. This update introduces two significant features. The first enhancement enables users to browse through their backed-up images and photos by searching for specific faces, locations, and dates. It includes tailored prompts, allowing users to quickly ask for items like “show recent selfies” or “find photos of landscapes.”

The second feature is more intensive in its data requirements, prompting users with inquiries such as “where did I eat vegan food in Lisbon?” or “what is the driver’s license of the Ferrari I saw in Bergamo?” When users tap on a relevant result, it redirects them to the Photos app, where a “Show more” button provides additional insights.

To activate Google Photos within the Gemini Android app, users can navigate to the Profile Menu in the upper right corner, select “Apps,” scroll to “Media,” and enable Google Photos. This feature is positioned alongside Spotify and YouTube but is currently rolling out gradually, with availability limited to users in the United States.
