Google has recently unveiled the integration of its Veo 2 artificial intelligence (AI) model into the Gemini chatbot, a development announced on Tuesday. This cutting-edge feature is available exclusively to paid subscribers of Gemini, allowing users to create short video clips lasting up to eight seconds using natural language text prompts. The Veo 2 model was initially launched in December 2024, serving as an advanced successor to the original Veo AI model. Additionally, it is incorporated into the Vertex AI platform and enhances the YouTube Dream Screen feature.

Veo 2 in Gemini Can Generate 720p Videos

In a detailed blog post, Google announced the global rollout of this innovative video generation model within Gemini. The feature will be accessible in all the languages supported by Gemini but is limited to Gemini Advanced subscribers; users on the free version will not be able to utilize this technology.

Users can select Veo 2 from the model picker menu in both the web and mobile versions of Gemini. The AI is capable of producing eight-second video clips based on user-defined text prompts, outputting them in 720p resolution with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. These videos can also be downloaded in MP4 format. It’s important to note that there is a monthly cap on the number of videos a user can generate, with notifications provided as users approach this limit.

Furthermore, Google is facilitating video sharing, enabling users to quickly upload their creations to various social media platforms such as TikTok and YouTube via the share button in the Gemini app. While the rollout has commenced, Google indicated that it may take several weeks for all eligible users worldwide to gain access to the new feature.

Upon its launch, Google highlighted that Veo 2 brings significant improvements in realism and intricate details. The model is designed to comprehend technical cinematography terms, allowing users to reference specific camera lenses, movements, and cinematic effects in their prompts, which the AI will then strive to incorporate faithfully into the generated videos.

Google has also addressed previous concerns regarding inaccuracies in AI-generated content, stating that Veo 2 has been refined to exhibit fewer “hallucinations.” This means users can expect a reduction in the occurrence of unwanted artifacts such as extra fingers, unusual limbs, or unexpected objects appearing in their videos.
