Google Meet Expands Note-Taking Functionality with Action Items Feature
Google Meet is enhancing its note-taking capabilities for Workspace users by introducing a new feature that generates a checklist of suggested next steps at the conclusion of meetings. This functionality not only outlines the action items but also includes the ability to assign due dates and designate a primary stakeholder for each task.
The note-taking feature was first initiated in August of the previous year and has been under continued improvement since then. Early testers have noted that while the system is not infallible, it generally performs well. The Gemini technology underlying this feature utilizes voice-to-text transcription to effectively distinguish between different speakers, contributing to a fairly accurate representation of the discussions held during meetings.
Furthermore, the system organizes the meeting summaries into a logical format, which is subsequently compiled in a Google Document that is automatically shared with all participants after the meeting wraps up. This streamlining of documentation is particularly beneficial for teams looking to keep track of important discussions and decisions made during virtual meetings.
As for the rollout of the new action items feature, Google has indicated that it will begin today; however, the deployment will occur at a slower pace than typical. This cautious approach reflects the company’s intent to closely monitor the performance and quality of the new functionality before a wider release.
