What you need to know

Google is developing a new feature known as the “Gemini Personalization” model, which leverages users’ search history to tailor its responses. Currently, this feature is available in the beta version of the Gemini app. To utilize this personalization capability, users must enable their search history sharing with Gemini and activate the Web and Apps Activity settings.

Google’s edge in the competitive landscape of artificial intelligence is its ability to seamlessly integrate Gemini across its array of existing platforms. This integration is exemplified by numerous updates that feature AI-enhanced capabilities. One prominent initiative is the AI Mode for Google Search, which showcases how artificial intelligence is expected to transform search engine functionality. Notably, Google is creating a system that personalizes Gemini’s responses based on individual users’ Google Search histories, a process defined in the “Gemini Personalization model,” as reported by Android Authority.

Android Authority identified this innovative model, which appears active in the Google app beta version 16.8.31. This new model, termed Gemini Personalization, is described as an experimental feature that provides tailored assistance using the user’s search history. By opting to connect their Google Search history to Gemini, users can expect to receive more customized answers to their inquiries.

The user prompt for this feature clarifies, “This version of Gemini uses your Google Search history to give you personalized help. In order to use it, you’ll need to first connect Gemini to your Search history. You can always disconnect it later.”

Google has assured users that their search histories will solely be employed to shape the Gemini Personalization model and will not influence other functionalities. Furthermore, interactions conducted through the Personalization model will not be utilized for training or enhancing Gemini. Such data will be stored within Gemini Apps and Activity but will remain available for a maximum of 60 days.

To activate the Gemini Personalization model, users are required to enable Web and App Activity within the Gemini settings.

Initial experiments conducted by Android Authority indicate that the Gemini Personalization feature can effectively utilize a user’s Google Search history to formulate relevant responses. Interestingly, some searches dating back to January 2025 have been retrieved by Gemini Personalization during these tests. It’s worth noting that the model indicates “some Gemini features are not available in this version.”

Given that the Gemini Personalization model is already functional in the beta phase of the Google app, a public launch may be imminent. There is speculation that this feature might initially be exclusive to Google One AI Premium users as part of the Gemini Advanced offerings. However, Google has yet to formally announce this feature.
