Google Released the April Pixel Watch Update Exclusively for March Update Recipients

Google has acknowledged that not every Pixel Watch has received the March software update as expected. Users still operating on the older Android 14 version from November 2024 will face a longer wait for the update to Wear OS 5.1, based on Android 15. Meanwhile, an unexpected April update has been released, but it too will not be available for those devices still using the Android 14 build.

On April 1, Google launched an unexpected update for the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3. This release also introduced a new Scam Detection feature, although no comprehensive changelog or information about the availability of updates was supplied at the time.

Google has now clarified that the April update will only be distributed to those Pixel Watches that had previously received the March update, which was the rollout for Wear OS 5.1. This statement also highlights that not all Pixel Watch users have accessed the March update.

The rollout of Wear OS 5.1 began on March 4 but was abruptly paused in subsequent weeks, leaving some users waiting for the update to be delivered.

In the April update’s changelog, Google mentions, “For those who did not receive the original March update, we will be rolling out an update in the coming weeks; more details to come.” This means that users with the older Android 14 build will have to exercise some patience before gaining access to the latest features.

Upcoming fixes, but limited access.

Regarding the details of the April update, Google has identified that it addresses two significant issues impacting Pixel Watch users.

First, this update (version BP1A.250305.019.W7) rectifies a problem that prevented some users from changing or adding watch faces via the Pixel Watch mobile app. Second, it addresses a delay in notifications that some users have been experiencing.

It is crucial to note, however, that this update will not be accessible to those who have not yet transitioned to firmware version BP1A.250305.019.W3, i.e., the March update. Therefore, if you find yourself in this category, do not expect to see the April update on your Pixel Watch just yet.
