New Custom Theme for Google Search Bar Widget Unveiled in Latest Beta
The recent update to the Google app beta has introduced an exciting feature: a Custom theme for the Search bar widget that enhances user customization options.
Android users have long appreciated the platform’s flexibility, especially regarding customization. Previously, options for altering the appearance of the Google Search bar widget underwent significant changes that limited personalization features. However, the latest beta release of the Google app has reinstated these capabilities, much to the delight of users.
In August, a redesign of the Customize screen was revealed, eliminating the hue and saturation sliders that allowed users to tailor the look of their Search bar widget. Instead, it offered a simplified selection of themes: System, Light, Dark, and Device (Dynamic Color), along with a transparency adjustment slider. These modifications met with mixed reactions, as many users felt restricted by the new limitations.
According to 9to5Google, the latest version of the Google app beta (version 15.43) has reintroduced customization options through a new “Custom” theme. This update allows users to access hue and saturation sliders once again, providing greater control over the color of the widget. A preview feature at the top of the screen displays how the widget will look with the chosen adjustments, and a reset button in the top right corner enables users to revert to the default settings easily.
As of now, this new feature has not yet rolled out on the stable channel, but it is expected to be available soon. Users with the beta version can access these enhanced customization tools by navigating to the Google app, tapping their profile picture, and selecting the Customize Search widget option.
