The Google Wallet app has garnered attention this week as the company unveils its latest enhancements and an important feature that promises to be useful to travelers.
According to a recent changelog from Google Wallet’s developer blog, users can now access real-time train status updates. This feature is being rolled out for Indian Railways and Via Rail, but it is currently limited to users in India and Canada who have saved their tickets in the Wallet app.
These notifications will keep users informed about their train’s status, including its expected arrival time at the station alongside alerts for potential delays or timely departures.

Additionally, Google Wallet has enhanced its offerings by allowing users to add Loyalty and Gift card passes directly through its web interface. This feature is part of Google’s broader Loyalty Program. In addition, parents and guardians in select countries have the option to allow their children to add event tickets and other passes to their Wallet, a feature first announced in March and initially available in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Spain, and Poland.
As part of its ongoing communication strategy, Google also teased forthcoming developments in Wallet and Pay at the I/O 2025 event. Set for May 20, the conference is expected to reveal significant updates regarding Google’s services.
During the conference, Google may also showcase advancements such as Android 16, Android XR, Wear OS 6, and possible previews of future Pixel products. Notably, Android 16 is expected to introduce Live Updates, a feature that enhances app interactions by rolling out improvements earlier in Q2 2025. The recent achievement of Platform Stability within Android 16 beta indicates that developers are now positioned to finalize their applications ahead of the major upgrade, which is also expected to integrate new accessibility features, including Auracast support for hearing aids.
