Senate Republicans Criticize Democrat-Led Homeland Security Bill
Senate Republicans are expressing strong opposition to their Democrat colleagues for advancing a “partisan” appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security. They argue that this legislation contains significant shortcomings and will hinder the incoming Trump administration’s ability to address the ongoing border crisis effectively.
Republican Senator Susan Collins from Maine, who serves as the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, stated that the Democrats’ leadership has resulted in a “unilateral decision” to advance a partisan measure on an essential appropriations bill intended to bolster border security and combat the influx of dangerous substances such as fentanyl into communities.

Collins condemned the decision, asserting that it undermines the bipartisan efforts made over the past two years to achieve consensus and provide Senators with the chance to debate and amend appropriations measures.
The chair of the Appropriations Committee, Democrat Patty Murray from Washington, did not offer comments to Fox News Digital prior to its publication deadline.
Senator Katie Britt, also a Republican from Alabama and ranking member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, echoed the criticisms directed at the Democrats for pursuing a partisan agenda.

Britt highlighted that the bill, which was introduced unilaterally by Senate Democrats, lacks the necessary provisions to effectively tackle the border crisis and enhance immigration enforcement throughout the country. She expressed concerns that the Democrats intentionally crafted a proposal that would leave the next administration without the vital resources needed for border security.

In commenting on the bill, Senator Bill Hagerty from Tennessee criticized the Democrats for their approach, stating, “Americans rejected open borders, yet Senate Democrats propose:
$750 million for resettling illegal aliens,
Funding for the CBP One app,
Increased funding for resettlement facilities,
Decreased funding for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Operations.”
Hagerty noted on social media that Democrats appear to be using their final months in power to allow as many illegal immigrants as possible into the country.

Currently, none of the individual spending measures have been subjected to a vote in the Senate, and it remains uncertain when or if Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will arrange voting on these bills. Schumer’s office has yet to respond to inquiries about the matter.
