Governor Josh Shapiro and Family Escape Fire at Governor’s Residence, Pennsylvania Police Report

A fire at the Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg early Sunday morning is currently under investigation as an act of arson, according to officials from the state police.

At the time of the incident, Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were safely located in another part of the residence and were unharmed during the event.

Emergency responders arrived at approximately 2 a.m. after receiving reports of the fire at the residence situated on North Front Street.

“Although the fire was brought under control, it resulted in extensive damage to a section of the residence,” as outlined in a post from the Pennsylvania State Police on their Tips Facebook page.

In the aftermath of the fire, state police formally declared the situation as an arson case, stating, “While the investigation is ongoing, we are able to confirm at this time that this was an act of arson.”

Authorities remain on-site, and the investigation involves collaboration across multiple agencies.

To aid in the investigation, a reward of up to $10,000 is being offered through the Pennsylvania State Police Tips program for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those accountable for the fire. Individuals with pertinent information are encouraged to call 1-800-4PA TIPS (1-800-472-8477).

Statement from Governor Josh Shapiro Following the Incident

In response to the fire, Governor Shapiro released a statement detailing the events of that night:

“Around 2 a.m., my family and I were alerted by knocks on our door from the Pennsylvania State Police, informing us of an arson that had affected the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg.”

“The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire responded promptly, and while they contained the blaze, the Pennsylvania State Police and Capitol Police safely evacuated us. We are thankful that no injuries occurred and the fire was extinguished without further incident.”

“Every day, we express our gratitude to the law enforcement and emergency responders who bravely face danger to safeguard our communities. Last night, they protected our family, and Lori and I are sincerely grateful for their swift actions.

PA State Police is currently leading the investigation and will provide updates to the public as more information becomes available.”
