Green Day, the iconic punk rock band, is celebrating a significant milestone as they prepare to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 1, at 11:30 a.m. PT. This honor coincides with the 20th anniversary of their renowned single, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” Esteemed tennis player Serena Williams and actor Ryan Reynolds are slated to speak at the ceremony, which will be hosted by radio and television personality Matt Pinfield.
The band’s star will be positioned at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, fittingly situated next to Amoeba Music, a well-known record store. Fans can watch the event live on the Walk of Fame’s website. This ceremony will mark the 2,810th star to be unveiled since the Walk of Fame’s inception in 1960.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, Green Day has garnered critical acclaim throughout their career, winning five Grammy Awards, including the prestigious Record of the Year in 2006 for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”
Ana Martinez, the producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, expressed her excitement, stating, “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to welcome Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Green Day’s music has not only inspired generations but also served as the soundtrack to our lives.”
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has been responsible for the Walk of Fame since its creation, conducting star ceremonies for numerous artists and entertainers over the years.
Since their formation in 1986 in Berkeley, California, Green Day has released 12 top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, three of which have achieved the No. 1 position: American Idiot (2004), 21st Century Breakdown (2009), and Revolution Radio (2016). Additionally, they have produced two top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”
This year, the band demonstrated their enduring appeal by headlining Coachella, where they performed to over 200,000 fans across two Saturday night shows, further solidifying their status as one of rock music’s most beloved acts.
