The Call of Duty league is witnessing a notable shake-up in its roster lineup as teams adjust ahead of the upcoming Major events. One of the most prominent changes comes from OpTic Texas, who are making a significant decision to revert to a familiar face.
Today, OpTic Texas officially announced the return of Pred to their roster. He will replace Huke, who stepped in for Pred back in December. Following this transition, Huke is set to enter free agency. The organization has framed this development as a celebration for Pred, who was instrumental in securing the 2024 CDL Championship with OpTic less than a year ago.
However, the conclusion of Huke’s tenure with the team feels somewhat abrupt given his impact. During his time with OpTic, especially in Major One, Huke was regarded as the standout player. Stats from BreakingPoint.gg indicate that Huke not only led the league in overall K/D ratio but also excelled in the Hardpoint K/D category. This strong performance sparked backlash on social media, with many fans expressing disappointment over the decision.
“This might be one of the dirtiest moves I have ever seen in CoD esports history,” one fan commented, highlighting the perception that Huke, despite his success, was dismissed unfairly. While the fan acknowledged the excitement around Pred’s return, they felt Huke deserved a better outcome after stepping up during a turbulent time for the team.
It’s conceivable that Huke was aware of the temporary nature of his placement within the team, especially since Pred had announced a hiatus just days after Huke joined. Pred cited personal issues, leaving uncertainty about his return. Now, just under two months later, he is rejoining the squad, prepared to reclaim his former level of performance.
Although Pred’s return is a significant moment for OpTic, it is undoubtedly bittersweet for Huke, who dedicated himself to leading the team during Pred’s absence. Despite his efforts, OpTic’s performance in Major One was cut short, as they were eliminated in the second round by the Carolina Royal Ravens with a score of 3-1.
Given Huke’s earlier achievements, he is likely to find a new team in the CDL as the season progresses. However, there is limited time for teams to make adjustments ahead of the next phase of competition.
Major Two is set to commence on February 14, culminating in a LAN event hosted by OpTic in Dallas, Texas, starting March 20.
