Television Actress Gulki Joshi Reflects on a Disturbing Mobbing Incident During IPL Event
Gulki Joshi shares a harrowing experience of being mobbed shortly after presenting an award to MS Dhoni in Ranchi.
Television actress Gulki Joshi, renowned for her role as the spirited Haseena Malik in the show Maddam Sir, recently recounted a chilling experience that underscores the unpredictable nature of celebrity status. This incident sheds light on the potential hazards celebrities can encounter amidst public admiration.
In a candid interview with Filmymantra, Gulki revisited a daunting episode from her past that took place years ago while she was in Ranchi for the Indian Premier League (IPL). “This occurred a long time ago. I was invited to present an award to Mr. Dhoni, as my show Nadaan Parinde was gaining popularity at the time,” she explained.
What was intended to be a festive occasion quickly spiraled into a distressing experience. “As soon as I stepped outside, a wave of fans completely engulfed me. It shifted from excitement to overwhelming chaos, making me feel genuinely unsafe. Among the pushing and shoving, a terrifying thought flashed through my mind that I could be molested in that crowd,” she recounted.
Fortunately, security personnel responded promptly. “Just when it was becoming unmanageable, the security team intervened and managed to extract me from the mob. They got me to safety, but the fear lingered—this was the first time I truly felt intimidated by a crowd,” she shared, her voice reflecting the lingering impact of that moment.
Despite the frightening encounter, Gulki’s recollections of the event were not devoid of positivity. She spoke warmly about her meeting with cricket icon MS Dhoni. “When I finally met Mr. Dhoni, he embodied everything you’d expect from a true hero—humble, gracious, and down-to-earth. Even after the match, he patiently engaged with fans, posed for pictures, and made each person feel valued,” she remembered fondly.
Reflecting on that interaction, she said, “In that moment, I understood what authentic greatness is. There was no arrogance—just pure humility. It was a powerful reminder that true talent is best showcased when paired with genuine modesty.”
Discussing the darker aspects of fame, Gulki emphasized the significance of security and personal boundaries. “While receiving recognition can be gratifying, incidents like the one in Ranchi underscore the necessity for safety measures. Crowds can sometimes overlook how their behavior affects others—mob mentality can quickly compromise personal safety,” she noted.
On her career trajectory, Gulki Joshi has continued to establish her presence in the industry. She recently starred in Hasratein 2, a bold anthology series that explores deeper, nuanced storytelling. The series features a diverse ensemble cast, including Dolly Chawla, Sanam Johar, and Vivek Dahiya, among others.
