New Musical “Gwyneth Goes Skiing” Hits NYC Stages
The theatrical production “Gwyneth Goes Skiing,” inspired by the recent high-profile ski trial of actress Gwyneth Paltrow, has made its debut Off-Broadway at the Soho Playhouse. This engaging new musical will be showcased until January 26, after which it is slated to proceed to The Elysian in Los Angeles from January 30 to February 2.
The show features Linus Karp taking on the role of Gwyneth Paltrow—a multifaceted star known for her contributions to film, lifestyle brands, and discussions on wellness. Joseph Martin co-stars as her adversary, Dr. Terry Sanderson. The narrative explores themes of justice, deception, and the world of optometry, cleverly framing the infamous ski trial as a dramatic legal spectacle, reminiscent of landmark cases in history.
A unique aspect of this production is its interactive element, as the audience members play the role of jurors, tasked with determining the guilt or innocence of the characters on stage. This immersive experience adds an intriguing dimension to the narrative, engaging viewers in a way that goes beyond traditional storytelling.
The musical enriches its story with original compositions by Leland, accompanied by notable vocal performances from Cat Cohen and the acclaimed Darren Criss, who has garnered both Emmy and Golden Globe awards. Additionally, the performance includes a special video appearance by drag icon Trixie Mattel, who portrays Paltrow’s mother, Blythe Danner, further enhancing the eclectic mix of talent and creativity in the show.
