Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothée Chalamet are set to take audiences by surprise in their forthcoming sports drama, Marty Supreme. The duo recently captured attention when behind-the-scenes images of them sharing a kiss surfaced online, hinting at the passionate content of the film. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Paltrow revealed that this is just a sneak peek of what viewers can expect, as the film includes a multitude of intimate moments between the characters.
Exploring Intimacy
Paltrow admitted, “There’s a lot of sex in this movie,” suggesting that the film will feature numerous steamy encounters. Set against the backdrop of competitive table tennis, Paltrow’s character is depicted as being in a troubled marriage with a man tied to the “Ping-Pong mafia.” She noted that Chalamet’s character, Marty, serves as a source of inspiration and rejuvenation for her character.
The comfort level between the actors allowed them to navigate their intimate scenes without the aid of an intimacy coordinator, a move Paltrow explained by saying they preferred a more organic approach to their performances. “We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back,’” she shared, indicating their desire for a natural flow in capturing those moments.
Positive Dynamics
Paltrow expressed that filming intimate scenes with Chalamet felt entirely normal for her, jokingly referring to their age difference: “I’m 109 years old. You’re 14.” She commended Chalamet for his respectful demeanor and his professionalism on set, emphasizing that he takes his craft seriously while being enjoyable to work with.
Additionally, Paltrow mentioned that her husband, Brad Falchuk, is nonchalant about her on-screen romance with Chalamet. After photos of their kissing became a viral topic, Paltrow shared during an Instagram Q&A that Falchuk felt “unthreatened,” reassuring fans that her heart remains devoted to him.
A Cinematic Comeback
Marty Supreme marks Paltrow’s return to film after a notable gap since her role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. She reflected on her career trajectory, revealing in an interview with People that her decision to slow down began with the birth of her daughter, Apple Martin, now 20. “When I had her, it just, everything felt redefined for me,” Paltrow explained, expressing her hesitation about being away from home for long periods during filming.
Now, with both of her children grown, Paltrow was initially anxious about her return but described her experience on set positively. Director Josh Safdie praised her comeback, suggesting that her time away from acting has contributed to a newfound emotional depth in her performances.
