H.E.R. Reacts to Omission of Best Original Song Performances at Oscars
Singer-songwriter H.E.R. recently shared her thoughts on the decision made by Oscar producers to exclude live performances of this year’s best original song nominees from the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony. This break from tradition has sparked conversations among artists and fans alike.
If live performances had been included, H.E.R. mentioned she would have showcased her rendition of Diane Warren’s “Journey” from the soundtrack of “The Six Triple Eight.” At a pre-Oscars dinner hosted by Chanel and Charles Finch, she described her feelings about the announcement.
“It’s a bit unusual, but I’m just glad to be part of the event,” H.E.R. expressed. “Whether or not we perform, the song will resonate. I always look forward to those performances, but I’m confident the show will still be memorable.”
“Journey” represents Warren’s remarkable 16th nomination for an Oscar. Although she has yet to secure a win, her contributions to music have been acknowledged with an honorary Oscar awarded by Cher in 2022.
The nominees for this year’s best original song category also include “Mi Camino” from “Emilia Pérez,” brought to life by Selena Gomez, and “Like a Bird” from “Sing Sing,” featuring performances by Abraham Alexander and Adrian Quesada. Additionally, “El Mal” from “Emilia Pérez,” performed by Zoe Saldaña, and “Never Too Late” from “Elton John: Never Too Late,” sung by Elton John and Brandi Carlile, round out the selections.
Notably, the event will kick off with a performance by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, both stars of the upcoming adaptation of “Wicked.” There are also plans for tributes, including a segment honoring James Bond featuring Doja Cat, Blackpink’s Lisa, and Raye, as well as a dedication to the late Quincy Jones featuring Queen Latifah.
H.E.R. also revealed that she may collaborate with Chris Martin, the frontman of Coldplay, in the near future. “Having toured with Coldplay, Chris and I have discussed writing together, and we’re working towards that,” she shared. “It would be an incredible experience since I have great admiration for Coldplay.”
She praised Martin, saying, “He is genuinely warm and brilliant; I truly look up to him. His encouragement means a lot to me.”
This year’s Oscars promise to provide plenty of excitement, even with the omission of live performances, maintaining their status as one of the most anticipated events in the entertainment industry.
