Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku Discuss Their Roles in “Sinners”

Actresses Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku recently spoke with “Extra’s” Carlos Greer about their upcoming supernatural-horror film, “Sinners.” The film delves into a captivating narrative set in a historical context, exploring themes of power, spirituality, and personal transformation.

Wunmi Mosaku shared insights into her character Annie, emphasizing the profound lessons she learned through the role. “I appreciate how Annie taught me about embracing my own power and spirituality, particularly in my roles as a mother and partner. This character has helped me connect deeper with my Yoruba traditional religion and the practice of Hoodoo,” she reflected.

Hailee Steinfeld, who plays Mary, expressed that her experience in the film led her to explore her family’s history further. “Through portraying Mary, I discovered more about myself and my roots. I’ve had enlightening conversations with my mom about her side of the family, especially regarding my grandfather, who was of mixed heritage. I often find myself wishing I could ask him about our lineage, especially now that I’ve delved into this project,” she shared, highlighting the film’s personal significance for her.

The transition into a vampire for her role was another highlight for Steinfeld, who noted, “The experience was exhilarating. Being covered in blood and shooting intense scenes at night brought unique challenges with the weather and atmosphere, but I truly enjoyed every moment, supported by an amazing cast and crew.”

Both actresses have also made their marks in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, prompting Greer to inquire if they might collaborate in future MCU projects. Mosaku responded enthusiastically, expressing her desire to see that happen, stating, “I would love that opportunity. I can’t say if there are plans for it, but I would be thrilled to work together in some capacity.”

Steinfeld, who is engaged to NFL quarterback Josh Allen, was asked about their wedding plans. She notably shifted the focus back to the film, explaining, “Right now, we are in the midst of a press tour for the movie, which is set to be released soon. Our focus is on promoting ‘Sinners,’ and we have a lot on our plates.”

The film “Sinners” is scheduled to be released on April 18, promising to captivate audiences with its intriguing narrative and compelling performances.
