Haley Joel Osment Faces Legal Issues Following Recent Arrest
Haley Joel Osment, the actor best known for his role in ‘The Sixth Sense,’ was apprehended at a ski lodge in Mammoth Lakes, California, on April 8. The Mono County District Attorney’s office has confirmed that Osment faces two misdemeanor charges and is scheduled for an arraignment at the Mono County Superior Court on July 7.
According to the District Attorney’s office, the 37-year-old actor has been charged with disorderly conduct while under the influence of alcohol in public and possession of cocaine. This update follows initial reports indicating his arrest, after which he was released. Sergeant Jason Heilman provided clarity to People magazine, stating, “He was booked and is no longer in custody.”
“The charges stemming from the arrest include public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance,” he elaborated. Witnesses reported that police responded to claims of “unruly conduct” involving the actor. Osment’s recent run-in with the law marks a continuation of his past legal difficulties.
In 2006, he was involved in a car accident where he crashed into a mailbox and faced charges for driving under the influence, to which he entered a no-contest plea. Reflecting on his experiences as a young star, he shared insights on the ‘Mentor Buffer’ podcast about the challenges he encountered growing up in the Hollywood limelight. He remarked, “I had this very intense pandemic relationship that ended up going nowhere. Then things started picking up after the worst of the pandemic.”
Osment continued, “Then there was the [SAG/WGA] strike, which I totally supported, but that put everything on hold for a very long time. And then we’ve had some political upheaval and this house that had been my refuge during the pandemic was completely destroyed in the Eaton Fire.”
In California, a charge of disorderly conduct carries penalties of up to six months in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000. For a first-time offense related to cocaine possession, consequences may include community service or a fine of at least $1,000.
