Nearly four months have passed since a family from Lucasville, Nova Scotia, had to vacate their Halifax-area residence due to severe flooding in their backyard. The family is urging local authorities to take prompt action as the damage to their property continues to escalate.
“We’re uprooted, we’re without a home, and there’s a lot that can do to a family,” expressed Darren Jamieson, the homeowner. He reported that the flooding has postponed the installation of a new septic system, leading him to spend approximately $30,000 in an effort to manage the crisis.
In his endeavor to resolve the issue, Jamieson took significant steps, including securing financing, selling his new car, and gathering all available cash to hire an installer for the septic system. He claims that the root of the problem lies in a broken pipe on his neighbor’s property, an issue that has reportedly been acknowledged by Halifax Water.
Despite the acknowledgment of the leak, Jamieson says he has experienced a lack of cooperation from his neighbors and noted that Halifax Water indicated they are unable to stop the water flow in the meantime.
“I would like to see the water stop. I don’t understand why nobody can step in to say, ‘This isn’t right, this property’s being destroyed,’” he remarked, expressing his hope that no other family would have to face such distressing circumstances.
Global News has reached out to Jamieson’s neighbors for their perspective, but they declined to participate in a video interview. However, they did convey that they plan to rectify the leak and are committed to adhering to a two-week timeline established by the municipality for repairs.
