Oppo has launched the F29 series, featuring two models: the Oppo F29 and the F29 Pro. This article will focus on the Pro variant.
The Oppo F29 Pro is packaged in a sleek white retail box, which contains a clear protective case, a SIM ejector tool, documentation, a charging cable, and an 80W power adapter.
At the forefront of the Oppo F29 Pro is its impressive 6.7-inch 10-bit FullHD+ quad-curved AMOLED display, which boasts a peak brightness of 1,200 nits and is safeguarded by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The display supports an impressive touch sampling rate of 240Hz and a screen refresh rate of 120Hz. Users can choose from three refresh rate modes: Auto, Standard, and High. The Auto mode intelligently selects the optimal refresh rate for a balance of performance and battery life, while Standard locks the display at 60Hz, and High maximizes refresh rates at up to 120Hz. The display is engineered to remain functional even when users are wearing gloves or have wet hands.
The screen is HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG compliant, accompanied by Widevine L1 certification, ensuring support for 1080p video streaming on compatible applications. Additionally, the central punch-hole cutout houses a 16MP front-facing camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a field of view (FOV) of 85 degrees, capable of recording Full HD video at 30 frames per second.
Located beneath the display is a fast and reliable optical fingerprint scanner, although its placement near the lower bezel may not provide the most ergonomic unlocking experience.
The back of the phone features a circular camera arrangement, which is bordered by a reflective plate that tends to attract fingerprints. This camera island includes a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP monochrome sensor, with the latter serving a purely aesthetic purpose. The primary 50MP camera is equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilization (EIS), and it can capture 4K video at 30 frames per second.
Design and Build
The Oppo F29 Pro is available in two color options: Marble White and Granite Black. The model we reviewed is Marble White, which features a matte finish that effectively resists fingerprints. The design is reminiscent of snowy mountain peaks that shimmer under different lighting conditions.
With its slender and durable feel, the F29 Pro’s overall build quality is commendable. However, the flat back panel, coupled with the quad-curved AMOLED display, might detract from the in-hand experience. Curvature on the edges could have enhanced grip and comfort.
The shiny frame of the smartphone is resistant to smudging. The right side features a responsive volume rocker and power button, while the bottom includes a USB-C port, SIM card slot, primary microphone, and speaker grille. An IR blaster is located at the top.
Powering the Oppo F29 Pro is the Dimensity 7300 Energy SoC, offering configurations of up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It operates on Android 15, layered with ColorOS 15. Notably, the device ships with 20 pre-installed third-party applications and games, which can be uninstalled but may feel excessive to some users, highlighting a potential area for Oppo to streamline in future models.
Battery Performance
Keeping the device powered is a robust 6,000 mAh Silicon-Carbon battery, which supports 80W wired charging. According to Oppo, the bundled charger can replenish the battery up to 45% within just 20 minutes.
Additional features of the Oppo F29 Pro include dual stereo speakers, various IP ratings for water and dust resistance (IP66, IP68, and IP69), compatibility for underwater photography, and MIL-STD-810H certification.
Pricing and Availability
The Oppo F29 Pro is accessible in India via Oppo’s official website. The model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at INR 27,999 (approximately $330 or €305), while the 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB variants are available for INR 29,999 ($350 or €325) and INR 31,999 ($375 or €345), respectively.
