Recently, we had the chance to examine the Realme 14 Pro+, and now we turn our attention to the other model in the 14 Pro series, the Realme 14 Pro. Both smartphones made a significant impression at Mobile World Congress (MWC), where they were prominently displayed at the company’s booth.

The Realme 14 Pro is priced at €430 for the entry-level 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model, making it €100 less expensive than the Pro+. Both devices are offered with a €50 early bird discount, while their standard retail prices are €480 and €580, respectively. Although they may appear similar on the surface, there are important distinctions between the two models.

One notable difference is the display type; the Realme 14 Pro features a dual-curved screen as opposed to the quad-curved design found in the Pro+. This OLED display measures 6.77 inches and supports a refresh rate of 120Hz but has a lower resolution of 1,080 x 2,392 pixels, translating to 388 pixels per inch (ppi). In comparison, the Pro+ offers a sharper resolution of 1,272 x 2,800 pixels at 450 ppi. Interestingly, the glass used on the Pro’s display does not carry any branding. However, both the Pro and Pro+ are rated IP68/IP69 for water and dust resistance and comply with the MIL-STD-810H military standard.

Display differences: dual-curved vs. quad-curved

On the front, the selfie camera on the Realme 14 Pro is less advanced, sporting a 16MP sensor with a fixed-focus 24mm lens, whereas the Pro+ is equipped with a 32MP sensor featuring an autofocus 21mm lens. Furthermore, video capabilities are limited to 1080p at 30fps on the Pro, compared to the 4K support of the Pro+.

Turning to the rear, the camera layout appears similarly busy on both models, but the Pro has fewer camera elements. It omits the telephoto lens found on the Pro+, which includes a 50MP periscope, and lacks an ultra-wide camera, featuring only a 2MP depth sensor instead. The 50MP main camera on the Pro is also a downgraded version, utilizing a smaller sensor (1/1.95 inches and 0.8µm) compared to the Pro+ (1/1.56 inches and 1.0µm). Nonetheless, it retains Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and can record video at 4K resolution at 30fps.

Comparison reveals that the Realme 14 Pro is thinner and lighter, measuring 7.6mm in thickness and weighing 179 grams, contrasting with the Pro+, which is 8.0mm thick and weighs 194 grams. While this difference may not be significant during regular use, the sleeker design is appreciated.

Importantly, the battery capacity remains the same at 6,000mAh for both models. However, charging speeds vary, with the Pro supporting 45W charging compared to the Pro+’s 80W, resulting in a charging time that is 12 minutes longer for the Pro (36 minutes for 1-50% charge versus 24 minutes for the Pro+).

The Realme 14 Pro is powered by a different chipset: the Dimensity 7300 Energy, while the Pro+ utilizes a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor. Although we have not conducted performance tests on the 7300 variant, it is expected to perform comparably to its Snapdragon competitor in terms of CPU and GPU capabilities.

The version we reviewed features 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which is the top-tier configuration. The base model offers 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with options for 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB configurations, although availability may vary by market.

The Realme 14 Pro is available in two colors: Gray and the Unique Pearl Design, a striking finish that incorporates powdered seashells to create distinctive swirling patterns unique to each device.

Additionally, Realme infuses thermochromic pigments into the design that change from white at room temperature to a vibrant blue when the ambient temperature drops below 16°C (61°F). This color change effect is temporary, likely lasting about a year. Furthermore, while the Pro+ has a glossy finish, the Pro features a matte texture with flatter sides, differentiating the aesthetic between the two models.

A look at the differing frame finishes of both models

Both the Realme 14 Pro and 14 Pro+ were first introduced in China, later launched in India, and are now making their way into select European markets. They are set at introductory prices of €430 and €530, respectively, during the early bird period, after which prices will increase by €50. Each phone comes with a charger, with the Pro including a 67W charger and the Pro+ a 120W charger, a commendable offering in today’s market, especially in Europe.
