The Tony Awards Administration Committee has officially announced that the acclaimed actor and writer, Harvey Fierstein, will be honored with the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre for the year 2025.

Fierstein, a celebrated talent in the theatre community, boasts a remarkable record of four Tony Awards. He won two for his acclaimed work in *Torch Song Trilogy*—one for Best Play and another for Best Actor in a Play. Additionally, he received awards for Best Book of a Musical for *La Cage Aux Folles* and Best Actor in a Musical for his role in *Hairspray*. His prolific writing portfolio includes the Tony-winning musical *Kinky Boots*, as well as notable works such as *Newsies*, *Casa Valentina*, *A Catered Affair*, *Safe Sex*, *Bella Bella!*, *Legs Diamond*, *Spookhouse*, *Flatbush Tosca*, and *Common Ground*. More recently, he revised the book for *Funny Girl*, which enjoyed a successful Broadway run and a subsequent North American tour, following its initial performance in London. In the realm of children’s literature, his book *The Sissy Duckling* has received the Humanitas Award and is currently in its fifth printing. His memoir, *I Was Better Last Night*, has also achieved bestseller status through Knopf.

Heather Hitchens, President & CEO of the American Theatre Wing, and Jason Laks, President of the Broadway League, praised Fierstein’s impact: “Harvey Fierstein’s contributions to the American theatre, both as an artist and activist, represent an extraordinary legacy. We are thrilled to honor him with this year’s Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre Award and can’t wait to celebrate one of our icons at the Tony Awards on June 8th.”

Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include a host of theatre legends such as Carol Channing, Graciela Daniele, Joel Gray, Jane Greenwood, and many others who have significantly influenced the theatrical landscape.

The 78th Annual Tony Awards will take place at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in New York City later this year. The event will be hosted by the talented Cynthia Erivo, a Tony, Emmy, and GRAMMY Award-winner and three-time Oscar nominee. The awards will be broadcast live on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 8:00 to 11:00 PM ET (5:00 to 8:00 PM PT) on the CBS Television Network, with streaming options available on Paramount+ in the U.S.

Chicago

Shubert Theatre (Broadway)

In an exciting development, supermodel and entrepreneur Ashley Graham is making her Broadway debut as “Roxie Hart” in the production of *Chicago*. Featuring a beloved book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, along with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, *Chicago* holds the title of the longest-running American musical in Broadway history. Set against the backdrop of the glitzy and often sordid world of the 1920s, the story follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and club dancer who commits murder after being threatened by her lover. To escape conviction, Roxie cleverly manipulates the legal and media systems, enlisting Chicago’s most charismatic criminal lawyer to turn her deadly act into sensational news worthy of today’s tabloids.
