In a surprising twist to the ongoing saga surrounding Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul has initiated legal action against his brother, Bob Weinstein, while serving time in prison. Harvey accuses Bob of deceitfully involving him in a $45 million loan agreement, ultimately leaving him to face the financial fallout.
On Thursday, Harvey formally filed a lawsuit against his sibling Bob and Hollywood executive David Glasser, a former leader at The Weinstein Company, which has since shut down amid scandal.
In his suit, Harvey alleges that Bob and Glasser orchestrated a calculated scheme designed to make him personally liable for the substantial loan, facilitating his removal from the company and paving the way for his professional collapse.
According to the legal documents, Harvey claims that his brother and Glasser misused funds from the loan for personal enrichment, with Bob purportedly withdrawing at least $6 million and David allegedly awarding himself bonuses amounting to $5 million, in addition to paying $1 million to their father.
In a recent audio statement captured from his cell at Rikers Island, Weinstein expressed his shock upon discovering what he described as fraudulent actions occurring during his time away from the company. He stated, “I now believe that a number of these executives played a big part in my demise.”
Harvey maintains that Bob and David intentionally deceived him into signing for the $45 million loan sourced from AI International Holdings. He asserts that after securing the loan, they redirected funds, leaving The Weinstein Company financially unstable while he is left carrying the burden of repayment.
The ongoing conflict has escalated, with the lender alleging that The Weinstein Company defaulted on the loan, leading to a lawsuit against the company. Harvey’s latest legal filing appears to be intertwined with this same case.
Responding to the allegations, Bob’s legal representative, Brian Kohn, declared to TMZ that “Harvey’s allegations are entirely without merit.” Efforts to obtain comments from Glasser’s team have not yet yielded a response.
