Hawaiian Airlines to Launch Premium-Only Lounge in Honolulu
Hawaiian Airlines has announced its plans to establish a network of premium-class-only lounges, starting with a new facility at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu. This marks the airline’s latest effort to enhance the travel experience for its most discerning passengers.
Following its merger with Alaska Airlines, the two airlines recently disclosed plans for their inaugural premium lounge in Honolulu, which is earmarked to open by the end of 2027. According to Alaska Air Group, this lounge will be situated in the Mauka Concourse of Terminal 1, setting the stage for a refined travel experience in the heart of the Pacific.
“We are reimagining the travel experience with spaces that showcase our dedication to guest satisfaction and the unique culture of Hawai‘i,” stated Todd Traynor-Corey, vice president of guest products and experience at Alaska Airlines, in a recent announcement. The upcoming lounge aims to create a modern oasis for guests, promising an atmosphere that embraces both comfort and cultural identity.
In terms of scale, the new lounge is set to be approximately five times larger than the existing Premier Lounge in Honolulu. Early renderings suggest a design featuring expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that will offer views of the bustling airport tarmac. Additionally, ample seating will be available in dedicated dining areas and a bar, catering to the needs of travelers seeking relaxation before their flights.
Currently, Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines each operate their own separate network of lounges. However, the introduction of a premium-only space signifies a new addition for both airlines. Although specific lounge access guidelines have yet to be confirmed, it is anticipated that the facility will primarily serve passengers traveling in business and first-class on long-haul flights connecting Hawaii to the mainland U.S. and other international destinations, including Japan and New Zealand.
Hawaiian Airlines is also focusing on improving the overall customer experience with several new initiatives. Notably, the airline is deploying fast and complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi on its A330 and A321neo aircraft. Furthermore, it is in the process of acquiring new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, which will feature upgraded business-class seating options, further enhancing travel comfort.
