Bill Maher Critiques Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s Rhetoric Amid Trump Controversy
“Real Time” host Bill Maher recently expressed his discontent with Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, for her choice of words during a recent address criticizing former President Donald Trump. Maher characterized her speech style as more fitting for a “podcaster” than a political figure.
Crockett gained significant attention for her remarks in which she labeled Trump’s congressional address as “a terrible nightmare,” conveying a desperate emotion when she exclaimed, “Somebody slap me and wake me the f— up because I’m ready to get on with it.”
Jasmine Crockett: A Rising Star in the Democratic Party
Jasmine Crockett has quickly established herself as a prominent figure in the Democratic Party, with many viewing her as a potential leader for the future. Her recent statements have sparked extensive discussion, especially within political commentary circles.
Maher, however, found her comments troubling. “Here’s Jasmine Crockett, who I thought was a significant leader in the Democratic Party. Her quote is, ‘This is a terrible nightmare. Somebody slap me and wake me the f— up because I’m ready to get on with it.’ But my first question would be, ‘On with what?'” he remarked.
He criticized her informal language, arguing that such rhetoric is unbecoming of a political leader. “This is the way a podcaster talks. Can you imagine Obama saying, ‘Oh, man, dude. This s— is whack. F— it. Slap me. I’m f—ing over it’?” Maher questioned, underscoring the disparity between the current and past political dialogue.
Response to the State of the Party
In addition to Crockett, Maher weighed in on the broader state of the Democratic Party. He echoed sentiments expressed by Senator John Fetterman, who described his party’s conduct during Trump’s address as a “sad cavalcade of self owns and unhinged petulance.”
Maher took particular aim at Democratic representatives, including a light-hearted jab at Rep. Al Green, and commented on the attire and actions of Democratic lawmakers during the event, likening them to participants in an “auction.”
He urged Democrats to present a compelling alternative to Trump, emphasizing the necessity for the party to regain momentum. “You can’t do anything because you lost the election, you lost all three branches of government, okay? The only thing you can do is present yourselves as a preferable option,” Maher stated. He advocated for a strategy that appeals to independent voters, suggesting that Democrats should aim to attract the center rather than merely resisting Trump’s actions.
Maher further critiqued the perception within the Democratic Party as being split between two approaches: either resisting Trump or appealing to moderate voters. “It’s not an ‘or’,” he insisted. “Court the center! Go to the place where people are going to vote for you!”
Fox News Digital has reached out to Rep. Crockett’s office for further comments on Maher’s critiques and her remarks regarding Trump.
