Audiences can gear up for a sneak peek of the song ‘Normal’ from the highly anticipated Broadway adaptation of Dead Outlaw. Created by Itamar Moses with music and lyrics by David Yazbek and Erik Della Penna, and directed by David Cromer, Dead Outlaw is scheduled to debut on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre on April 27, 2025.
The original cast from the off-Broadway performance is set to reprise their roles, featuring Andrew Durand as Elmer McCurdy, Jeb Brown as the Band Leader/Jarrett, Eddie Cooper as Coroner Johnson, Dashiell Eaves as Louis/Charles Patterson, and Julia Knitel as Helen/Maggie. Additionally, Ken Marks will play George, while Trent Saunders takes on the role of Andy Payne. Thom Sesma will portray Coroner Noguchi, with Emily Fink and Max Sangerman serving as understudies.
Dead Outlaw was initially produced off-Broadway by Audible Theater and received acclaim, winning the ‘Best Musical’ award at several prestigious ceremonies including the Drama Desk Awards, the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards, the Outer Critics Circle Awards, and the Off-Broadway Alliance Awards. The show’s creative team brings together a talented array of professionals including Ani Taj for choreography, Arnulfo Maldonado handling scenic design, and Sarah Laux in charge of costume design. The lighting design is by Heather Gilbert, while sound design is overseen by Kai Harada. Music supervision is managed by Dean Sharenow, with Rebekah Bruce leading music direction. The orchestrations are crafted by David Yazbek, Erik Della Penna, and Dean Sharenow. Casting is managed by Tara Rubin Casting/Peter Van Dam, CSA, with Cynthia Cahill serving as the Production Stage Manager.
Dead Outlaw tells the darkly comedic tale of Elmer McCurdy, an outlaw whose life takes an unexpected turn into celebrity status even after death. The narrative intricately weaves through Elmer’s bizarre posthumous adventures, challenging the notions of fame, legacy, and the meaning of existence itself. It suggests that even death shouldn’t deter one from embracing life to the fullest.
