Though Heidi Klum was born in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, her essence is undeniably infused with the vibrant spirit of New York City, where she has spent over three decades establishing her career and building a life.
Klum’s journey in fashion began in the early 1990s when she triumphed in a German modeling contest against 25,000 other participants, securing a contract with Metropolitan Models in New York. This pivotal moment opened the door to a distinguished career characterized by iconic moments, including covers for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, runway appearances for Victoria’s Secret, and guest roles in popular television series like Spin City and Sex and the City. Her most significant contribution, however, has been as the host, producer, and judge of the acclaimed television competition series Project Runway, which she has helmed since its inception in 2004, now gearing up for its 21st season.

Heidi Klum’s enthusiasm for New York City is palpable. Over the years, the city has not only been her home but also the backdrop for many cherished experiences, particularly those associated with New York Fashion Week and her work on Project Runway.
“So many wonderful memories are tied to this city,” Klum reflects. “Each season, designers showcase their creations at New York Fashion Week for the finale. Having worked closely with them all season, I take immense pride in witnessing their journey and the unveiling of their final collections.”
Beyond her professional life, Klum enjoys the festive social scene of New York, especially during Halloween. For over 20 years, she has celebrated with extravagant parties at high-profile venues like Marquee and the Hard Rock Hotel in Times Square. Known for her unique and elaborate costumes — such as her spine-chilling portrayal of a worm in 2022 — her Halloween gatherings attract a plethora of celebrity guests including Martha Stewart and Kelsea Ballerini.
“The venues I’ve chosen for my parties hold special significance as they are steeped in amazing memories,” she shares.
When not hosting grand celebrations, Klum finds solace at home with her husband, Tom Kaulitz, and their children. “I cherish those moments when I can relax in New York with my family,” she reveals. “Spending time with my eldest daughter, Leni, who lives here, is my favorite way to unwind.”
During her outings, Klum often frequents SoHo, drawn to its vibrant culinary scene. One of her top dining spots is Bar Pitti, an Italian bistro. “SoHo boasts incredible food, and the fashion sense of its people is always inspiring,” she states. “You’ll often find me exploring the delightful restaurants and shops in that neighborhood.”
While her legacy is rooted in fashion, Klum is now enthusiastically diving into the culinary world. Last fall, she launched Crazy Pizza in SoHo alongside her ex-partner, Flavio Briatore. This upscale pizza establishment is already turning heads with its 15 globally recognized locations, including in Milan and Saint-Tropez. Crazy Pizza sets itself apart with a lively atmosphere featuring a DJ, theatrical pizza-making displays, and a pizza-shaped disco ball gracing the ceiling.
“I was eager to join this venture because we truly serve outstanding pizza, and the entire concept captivated me,” Klum explains. She also encourages diners to try the beef carpaccio, burrata salad, chicken parmigiana, and their signature freshly made tiramisu.
Whether engaging in the fashion world, producing television content, hosting elaborate Halloween festivities, or exploring the culinary arts, Heidi Klum continuously finds ways to infuse enjoyment into her diverse pursuits, captivating her audience and fans around the globe.
